Got Energy?

I would venture to say that in our day and age, the majority of people would classify themselves as “tired” a good majority of the time, whether or not they actually want to admit it. My energy seemed to come and go in spurts. Sometimes I’d feel motivated, and so I knew in those moments, I better move it and get done what I could, because the feeling would pass and I’d be tired again (This post may contain affiliate links).

These past few months, though, the energy spurts seemed to come fewer and further between. I found that the majority of the time I lacked energy and motivation to do much of anything. I actually began to wonder if I had a thyroid problem, adrenal fatigue, mono, or some other issue that could provide a clinical reason for how exhausted I always felt.

Granted, life was “busy,” and I could always blame my lack of energy on long days and short nights and a season in life that was exhausting on a multitude of levels, particularly emotional, which seems to be the most exhausting for me.

Days that didn’t require me to the leave the house, I didn’t want to. While normally I would plan adventures and excursions to explore this or that, I never wanted to go and do anything. I’d stay home, and, at the most, force myself to go on a walk around the neighborhood.

I just got so tired of always being so tired.

I considered going to see the doctor about it, but I’m not really a fan of doctors and try to avoid them as much as possible.

And then a breakthrough happened for me. I follow a woman’s blog whom I really enjoy and she posted about her battle with adrenal fatigue and some digestion problems she’d been having. At the end of the post, there was an opportunity to download a copy of her 10 ways for eating clean. I read through it and one of the items listed was Bulletproof coffee, so I decided to check it out.

If you go to the Bulletproof website, they have an extensive post about the components of this concoction and why it is good for health. I won’t bore you with the details (you’re welcome to read up on it yourself), but essentially, you add MCT oil and grass-fed cow butter to your coffee in the morning and it’s supposed to give you energy and help you think more clearly. They also sell their own coffee, but I’m very biased to Peet’s and not willing to give up that addiction.

It sounds gross. But I was intrigued by the science behind the concoction, and was so desperate for something that would help my energy levels, that I figured I didn’t have much to lose. I found the MCT oil online (you can buy it on Amazon), and I got Kerrygold butter from Trader Joe’s.

I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO NORMAL COFFEE.

Within the first few days of drinking this magic, I had accomplished more than I had in the last few weeks combined. Seriously, I had so much energy, I didn’t even know what to do with it all. I accomplished projects that I had been procrastinating for months. Even late into the evening I still had enough energy to be working away.

It sounds crazy, but drinking this first thing in the morning has Changed. My. Life. When I’m low on sleep I still feel tired here and there a little bit, but NOTHING compared to how I was feeling a couple weeks ago when I just couldn’t seem to shake the exhaustion.

For those that know me, you know that I’m not a shopper and I’m pretty frugal with my money, so something has to be pretty great for me to spend money on it. Buying oil and butter for my coffee is worth far more than the actual cost. The MCT oil costs $19, but you only use 1-2 teaspoons a day (to begin with, and can eventually increase to 1 Tablespoon per day as per the directions on the bottle), so it should last at least six weeks (less than 50 cents a day for two teaspoons, only a quarter if using just one teaspoon). And the butter is a little less than $3 and would last one person about two weeks.

If you are looking for more energy in life, I would highly recommend trying out this concoction. Don’t drink coffee? Not to worry! The oil and butter can be added to any hot drink. The oil is tasteless and flavorless, but you can taste the butter. Others have added it to tea and hot chocolate, although with hot cocoa you do get sugar, which sometimes can cause a spike followed by a dive in energy. However it is that you decide to consume the oil and butter, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Let me know if you try it out and what you think!

Got energy? Now I do!!!
